Merry Christmas!

First of all .... I am so far behind on my posting. Merry Christmas to you all. I hope you all enjoyed good times with those who mean the most to you. We shared an enjoyable day with family at our house exchanging gifts and eating delicious food. My greatest joy was to see my daughter love on my Grandaddy. We have waited almost 18 long months for this day and it couldn't have come on a more special day. What an example of innocence. She probably hugged and kissed him 5 times. We cried at the sight of this. He's not in the best of health and it has affected him so much physically and mentally. Sometimes he tells me that he lives another day just to see Raegan and that one day she will love him back. That is so hard on me because I cannot make her show him attention like she does everyone else. She is usually very reluctant to sit in his lap or give kisses but today she let her guard down and didn't hold anything back. With the reassurance of my brother ( Her favorite Uncle Alex) by her side she loved on Grandaddy with all of her might and that was the best Christmas gift of all. Thank you, Lord.

My sweet friend Debbie was kind enough to pass the award to me.The meaning of this award... This blog invests and believes in the PROXIMITY - nearness in space, time and relationships! These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.

And the winners are.......

Catching up in Blogland.

I am so far behind on blogging. We have been busy that blogging has just taken a backseat to other things but it has been so nice catching up with my Blogger Buddies. We have been working on potty training again. Raegan is not doing well in Pull-Offs.... oops... I mean Pull-Ups. She is always taking them off. Fortunately, she goes potty but then doesn't want to wear them...so we have resorted to panties. ELMO and Mickey of course. Hey, you gotta do whatever it takes. At night we switch to them and she seems to be motivated to wear them until bedtime. We've only had a few accidents. Today she used the potty 6 times.

Scott and I have discovered Monopoly Electronic banking and we LOVE it. We especially love the fact that you can stop playing and then start all over again whenever you want. We can get a good hour in at night after she goes to bed and then save the game for another night.

We received our results on our state tests this week. About 75% of my students scored advanced but I had 2 students to get below proficient. Overall, I was pleased with their scores. Most students did better than I expected and they were really excited about the results. This week is finals. We have 2 days left of school until Christmas break. We have so much to do to finish out the semester. Its like the end of the year for us because we will get all new students and classes in January thanks to our block scheduling.

I haven't had much time to enjoy my crafts, hairbow making, or sewing. We have a new toy and we are still trying to figure it out. I will update you later on how it is going. I am electronically challenged.....so we'll see.

My sweet friend Amanda has shared good news with me. Her little girl Flor has just gotten out of PGN in Guatemala and will be coming home soon. She has been trying to bring this little girl home for so long now and she is so close. I only wish it could've been for Christmas but a way to bring in the New Year. We are so happy for them both to be Forever Home!

Xerox Thank you cards to our soldiers.

XEROX IS DOING SOMETHING COOL If you go to this web site: www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed services. How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! It is FREE and it only takes a second. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our soldiers over there need to know we are behind them. This takes just 10 seconds and it's a wonderful way to say thank you.
Please take the time to pass it on for others to do. We can never say enough thank you's. Thanks for taking to time to support our military!

Another Busy Weekend

This weekend we have been so busy. Friday night we went to the Huntsville Botanical Gardens Galaxy of Lights. Raegan was in such awe at all of the lights. It was amazing to watch and listen to her excitement as we rode through the gardens. She was so excited that she wouldn't sleep. Seriously, she was up at 2:15 and then 5:15 in the morning. It could have been the hot chocolate that someone gave her....Hmmmm! Saturday we went to Huntsville again to have our family Christmas portraits made. They were able to get some pretty good shots despite one slightly uncooperative little girl. Then we went to eat Cajun for dinner while our photos were being processed. We also shopped for a birthday gift for a friend's child. In the meantime, we received a call in response to an add that we had placed for a wheelchair for my grandfather. As luck would have it we were able to go get it and still get back in time to pick up our pictures. Whew! Then Sunday after church we did a little grocery shopping, took pictures with Santa and went to the birthday party. Needless to say we got very little house cleaning or laundry done this weekend. As my mom says it won't go away anytime soon so don't worry about it. Well easier said than done. Well enough about the weekend. Here are some of our pictures.

A week of hurdles.

This has been a week of many hurdles.

It has been a crazy week at school. The kids are so wild and ready for Christmas break. Getting them to work for the next two weeks is going to be a challenge. They have been taking state tests this week and the Biology one was today. I hope everything that we have done all year has paid off. We will likely know the results by the end of next week. I am a little nervous to say the least.

I have been working on everything to start next semester of college. I have always said that scheduling classes and paying for them is half the battle. Getting through the paperwork can be stressful....and don't even think about trying to call anyone about any questions you have because you get one automated message after another to eventually reach a mailbox that is not accepting messages because it is already too full. Then, one might think about emailing only to get a response from a person who doesn't enough to help you and will gladly transfer you to someone who can help...... you guessed it.... the mailbox again. Then in 3 or 4 days someone will call and then tell you to check back in a few more days because its not processed in the computer yet. If this sounds like a rant from experience...it is. Finally, I got some answers and I am making progress.

On a brighter note... my sweet girl will be 17 months old tomorrow. I can't believe how fast she is growing. She is doing so many things. She loves shoes and puts on everyone's. Her favorite thing to do is take off her clothes and shoes and put them back on. (backwards and wrong-side out of course and not to mention shoes on the wrong feet) She is using the potty several times a day on a regular basis. She's even used the big potty when we've been away from home. She's acquired a few bumps and bruises from her active playing. They ought to look really nice in our Christmas pictures this weekend, huh? We tried to reschedule but they are booked up until the first of the year. Sooooo we're going to give it a try and maybe they can photo edit the bruise. I hope so! 15 days and counting until CHRISTMAS BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shopped til' we dropped!

We are pooped from shopping. I have never battled the crowd on Black Friday... nor did I really this year. I left my house at a few minutes til 5 this morning went to Wal-Mart to get Scott a blu-ray player that was on sale for Christmas and then was back home in bed by 5:30. How's that for shopping? He went hunting and Raegan and I snuggled for a few more hours. When he got home around 10:30 then we all got ready and went back out to finish our Christmas shopping! Wooooo hooooooooo! We FINISHED! I hate the rush of the holidays so I was thankful (no pun intended) to get my shopping done early. Whew! What a stress relief. I even bought everything down to the wrapping paper and gift bags for each present. Now if I could get someone to just decorate my tree. Christmas decorations ought to be really interesting this year with a little helper. I am so excited about this Christmas....probably more than I've ever been in my life. Experiencing the holidays with Raegan is like being a kid all over again. Being an adult can be so boring sometimes. She just brings out the kid in me....in all of us! Her day to day expressions are just priceless. We are taking our family Christmas pictures next week so I am hoping to get some really good ones. I'll post as soon as we get them.

A special day!

Happy Birthday to my father-in-law. He is a wonderful man and we are so happy to be celebrating another birthday with him. Yes, his birthday fell on Thanksgiving this year. We have so much to be thankful for and we had a wonderful time celebrating. I encourage you to remember what means the most to you in life and hit your knees and thank God for it all.

Thank you Lord for all the many blessings that you have bestowed upon my family. We are not deserving yet you still see us as worthy enough for your forgiveness and your love.

Something to be thankful for.

I am so thankful to be spending a whole week with my little blue-eyed princess. My... where does the time go? She is growing up way too fast but I am also thankful for that. She is healthy and happy. God has blessed us richly with her and to him I am most grateful. Being a mother is an indescribable feeling that I only dreamed of before her. Raegan you are momma's dream come true. You are my happily ever after. You're who I want to be like if.... I ever grow up. You amaze me every day. I love you, Princess.

One week until Thanksgiving Break!!!!!

It seems as if the work weeks and the weekends are just running together. Where does the time go? Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner and I feel less prepared for the holidays than I've ever felt. Atleast I have started my shopping but usually by this time of year I have all the gifts bought and wrapped. That was prior to having a child though. Ha Ha! All of Raegan's gifts are bought and I've almost decided what to get Scott. I'm having a hard time. After this many years together we run out of creative ideas. We still have to get some other things for those hard to buy for family members on our list but we have done most of the shopping. I really like to get it done early so that I can enjoy the holidays with my family. I BELIEVE what is most important about celebrating together is spending time with the ones you love the most. I read on someone's blog recently.... We may not have it all together, but together we have it all. This speaks volumes of truth to me.

Baby signing

Raegan has been busy with baby sign-language lately. This child amazes me each day. When she was 9 months old I tried to teach her a few common baby signs so that she could communicate with us before she developed vocal commuication. I didn't think she picked it up so I kind of slacked off for awhile. Then, this weekend she picked it up again. Its amazing what they can remember. She has been signing eat, more, up, milk, sleepy, etc. "More" is her favorite and when she really wants more in a hurry she signs even faster. Too funny. I didn't know that American Sign Language is actually considered a second language. I learned a little ASL when I was 7 because we had a deaf student in my class. They also taught us a little spanish and believe it or not I still remember the things I learned then but can't remember much of the 2 years I took formally. Amazing what young minds can retain.

Christians are like pumpkins...

From one pumpkin to another!!!!!!! A woman was asked by a coworker, 'What is it like to be a Christian?' The coworker replied, 'It is like being a pumpkin.' God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. Then He cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, and greed. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see.'

Please pray for Alahna Mogan

*UPDATE: Baby and mother are doing well and Baby Alahna is expected to make it. She is even breathing on her own. This family has a long road ahead of them and they anticipate a lengthy stay in the hospital for the baby. Please continue to keep them in your prayers.

Alahna Morgan was born at 5:32 tonight at 5 months 3 weeks gestation. She is only 8 inches long. The doctors could not stop her mommy's labor despite many efforts and her due date was not until February. Her daddy called tonight to say that mommy and baby are okay right now but they haven't gotten to see her yet. Her big brother Preston who is only 10 months old is staying with his aunt but may be coming to stay with us some over the weekend so that his family can visit his mommy. Please pray for them all. This unexpected blessing has surprised them in so many ways already. They had a difficult time getting pregnant with Preston (about 6yrs waiting) and now they have a little girl that they've always dreamed of. May God continue to bless them and spare this sweet girl's life if it be his will. This family has already endured loss through several miscarriages and failed attempts at conception. I only hope that God has plans for her here and isn't needing her to be with him in Heaven.

A Bit Under the Weather....

Blogging has taken a backseat lately as we have all been under the weather. Scott and I even missed some work this week to care for Raegan and try to get ourselves in better shape. She has had a terrible cough since Saturday. I called the on-call doctor and they called in steroids for 2 days. It is better but still pretty scary to listen to at night so we haven't gotten much rest. During the day she is pretty active but you can tell that she is struggling to be her chipper self. I called the doctor on Monday and they said to let it run its course since she no longer has fever and they gave me instructions on some OTC meds for her to take. If she's not better by Friday... I will be calling them back.

Scott is hoping to get an available promotion at work which would mean more hours but also more pay. We are praying that he gets it and he stands a good chance. Please help us in our efforts. He is certainly qualified but so is another guy so we are hoping that it works out in our favor.

Thank you to our family and friends who have called to check on us while we've been sick and let us know we are loved. A special thank you for the delicious soup that you brought while we were so sick. From the bottom of our heart. We appreciate you so much.

I've been tagged.

I've been tagged by Ashton, so here goes.

7 Weird Things About Me

1. I am addicted to sunflower seeds and could eat them year round. Oddly though they made me sick when I was pregnant but on the other hand so did sweets, especially chocolate.

2. I am SCARED of the DARK. Yes... you read that right. I also don't like confined spaces.

3. I have an unusually keen sense of smell and always have ever since I was a child. Sometimes my family teases me about it.

4. I talk way too much! It runs in my family. I know it is an annoying habit but one that is so hard to break.

5. I am a super-planner almost to a fault but I am very flexible when things get off schedule. Occupational hazard I guess.

6. I love the smell of fresh plowed dirt and it reminds me of my childhood growing up on a farm. Now I know that the smell I love actually comes from the bacteria in dirt releasing malodors as it is being disrupted and turned with a plow. The thought of this kind of grosses me out but I still love the smell.

7. I had such an easy labor that the doctor let me deliver Raegan myself in the hospital and they let me keep the placenta and umbillical cord when they found out I was a bio teacher. Totally weird but an incredible experience.

Now, its your turn Amanda, Debbie, Krista, Angel (Blessed with 4), and Susan.

Reflections

These last few weeks have been so busy for us. I am getting back into the school routine after fall break and have started a before/afterschool tutoring program that will last for the next 6 weeks. We have had probably at least 4 or more meetings a week plus many doctor's appointments for Raegan and myself. It's that time of year!

This weekend we spent 2 days at the Bell Buckle craft show in Bell Buckle, TN. It is a crafter's paradise. About 80,000-100,000 people attend and there are streets upon streets of crafts and miscellaneous things for sell. The food is delicious. We usually go to the "World's Longest Yard Sale" but this is so much better. Everything is in one small town and you are able to just walk around. It's like Mayberry! The weather was pleasant and we all enjoyed ourselves.

I have been sewing some and have made 2 dresses recently. One is for Raegan and the other is a gift. I am getting better but I still have so much improvement to make. A friend and I are thinking about signing up for a sewing class together. She has more experience than me but still considers herself a novice. I think it will be fun!

My sweet girl is growing so fast. She is such a sweet child and I adore her sweet spirit. She is the happiest child I have ever seen. The 3 of us have a lot of fun together. I hope she remembers all these fun times when she grows up. I have so many happy childhood memories and she seems to be a girl after my own heart. She just loves LIFE. Babydolls are still her favorite toy. She even takes her baby to the doctor when we go and she takes the shots like a BIG girl so that her baby doesn't have to cry. Isn't that so sweet.

Well this started out to be a short post but ended up kind of wordy. Blogging is a time for me to reflect and I guess I had a lot of catching up to do. Have a good rest of the week.

To my daughter, I love you.

To My Daughter,
I love You
My day becomes wonderful
when I see your
pretty face smiling so sweetly.
There is such warmth and intelligence
radiating from you.
It seems that every day
you grow smarter and more beautiful.
And every day
I am more proud of you.
My sweet daughter
I love you.
---- Susan Polis Schutz
This sentiment was framed and given to me just before Raegan was born from my Daddy. Every time I read it I am reminded of his adoration for me and how that unconditional love has trickled down through me to my own little girl. Raegan you may never know just how much you are loved by your mommy but I plan to spend all of my life teaching you and reminding you that you are my precious gift from God and my very own little piece of Heaven.

Good Doctor Visit.

Today was Raegan's 15 month check-up. I was a little nervous since this was the first time to see her new doctor but it all went fine and we liked her really well. She played with Raegan a lot which impressed me that she tried to develop a repoire with her. Unfortunately, they had to give her 4 shots and then we have to go back next week for a flu shot and then again in 4 weeks for the booster. In the meantime we will be looking for a pediatric dentist for her to see since she is getting so many teeth now. Two more have appeared and are working their way through. That makes for 12 all together once these finally finish coming in.

Over all we got a good report. I was worried that she is not talking enough but the doctor said that she is actually performing above age level at appx. 19 months. She is in the 25th percentile in height and weight which is 21 lbs. 5 oz. and 29 1/2 inches. She told us that we had a movie star on our hands and that she needed to go to Hollywood. She was exceptionally spunky today. After the shots though she was exhausted and it took a while for her to bounce back. However, the doctor said we needed to cut her milk and juice intake drastically. She is getting almost double the recommended amount and they said there is a danger of depleting the iron in her blood and causing anemia. This will be a major adjustment for us because she drinks so much.

Potty Time!

Raegan used the potty for the first time tonight! She has been becoming more aware of potty issues lately. She has been pointing to her diaper and saying "Shew" when it is dirty. The other day I told her to let me check her diaper and she did then later she was checking it herself. It was so funny. Tonight she wanted to use the potty and she did it herself. We clapped, acted silly, and celebrated her accomplishment. She was so excited and proud of herself.

Tomorrow Raegan has a checkup with her new doctor. Then we have to get some things done around the house to prepare for our weekend company. I still have to get grades ready to turn in on Monday. Next weekend we are going out of town and I can't wait for that. I have been looking forward to this all year. This time of year is my favorite but it is very busy. We usually go to the pumpkin patch and we still are but it will have to wait until the end of the month this time. There's really no rush since we've already done our pumpkins. I think Raegan will enjoy so much this year since she's older. Last year she was so tiny and she really didn't know much about the holidays. We can't wait to experience them with her this year. This age is so much fun. It seems like if you blink your eyes time passes by so quickly and you miss something. I am counting my blessings and just trying to cherish every moment.

Lucky Me!

Guess what!!! I won the shoe give-away on Rebecca's blog. How exciting! I got to pick out a really cute pair of shoes on Etsy from the Gracious May shop. All of their shoes are absolutely adorable!
It was so hard to choose but I finally decided on a great pair.

Thank you to Rebecca for the give-away and to Debbie for posting about it so that I knew to enter. I know my little Raegan will love the shoes. She's all girl and shoes are her fave.

Sew Much Fun!

Sewing can be fun! I have always had a desire to learn how to sew but I have never really pursued it. When I was a little kid my great-grandmother set up her machine and helped me make simple things but I never was able to truly learn how to do it all myself. Scott asked me what I wanted for Christmas this year and I told him that I wanted a sewing machine. I began looking for a user friendly machine. My mom is friends with someone who owns a sewing repair shop so she had him look for a machine for us. He called the other day and we went by to check out what he had. He had found us a reasonably priced older machine which was just what we were looking for. On the other hand, a co-worker of mine told me that she had a machine that she wanted to get rid of b/c it was just taking up space in her house and she never used it. She brought it to me today and guess what.... its almost exactly like the one the man had in his store. The whole time I was so thankful to be getting her old machine but secretly hoping it would be similar to the one that we had looked at from the shop. Wow! How lucky can a girl get?

Anyways, tonight my mom came over and helped me with the machine. She gave me some great pointers that her grandmother taught her. It was nice to spend the time with her and for us to have such a good time together. I practiced sewing a little and even threaded it myself and put a new bobbin in. Don't laugh!!!! I'm learning! I even sewed my name. I can't wait to make some things for Raegan.

Tomorrow marks the 8 year anniversary when Scott and I met and officially became a couple. My where does the time go. Two years after we started dating we were engaged, two years later married, two years later pregnant, and now here we are married a little over 4 1/2 years with a 15 month old little blessing. God has been so good to us. We are looking forward to making it to the big 50 one day.

2 New Teeth!

Raegan has 2 new teeth! Last night she was sitting in my lap cuddling with me and she put my index finger in her mouth. This is usually what I do to rub her gums when they hurt. I told her to bite down so I could check her teeth. She did and OUCH... I found out the hard way that she now has her top molars. She has cut them a little early. The odd thing is that she has 10 teeth but she is still missing her bottom lateral incisors which usually come in around a year old. Hmm! I'm not worried though. I have heard all kinds of teething sequences. However, she has been an easy teether. Maybe we have just heard so many horror stories that we were prepared for the worst. Remember this is our first time at this parenting thing and we do get a lot of unwarranted advice and tidbits... some of which is very helpful. We don't rule anything out in the beginning.
On another note, I found out recently that a co-worker and friend of mine is expecting again. Her son is about to turn 10 months old. YIKES and the new baby is due in April. Can you say surprised? Shhh! Its still a secret to most people.
My friend Samantha who recently lost her dad only a short week after the birth of her son is due back to work in 2 weeks. We really miss her. She is doing well given all that she has been through. Thank you to those of you who said prayers on her behalf.
The Wheeler family has exciting news.... They are coming home soon. Their time in Guatemala has been very trying. Please pray for a safe return for them. They have dealt with so much lately from moving, to sickness, and stolen purses and diaper bags. Whew! Only God could keep a person sane during all that they have been through.
This week is one of my hardest teaching weeks and luckily just before FALL BREAK! We have class this weekend and then a full week off!!!! :0) YIPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEE! Maybe I can get some projects done around the house before our company comes in for the weekend.
Hope you all have a good week!

Pumpkin carving.

We carved pumpkins tonight. I know its not even October yet but next weekend I have class, and the weekend after that we are having company, and then the weekend after that we have plans to go somewhere, and then the last weekend we have a Halloween party to go to. Whew! Hey, you gotta do it when you can. Since Raegan loves Mickey Mouse I found one in a coloring book and then Scott used it to carve her pumpkin. My plans were to do a Disney castle on one pumpkin and then one of the characters on another one. We have two left. My dad thought Raegan needed to have sooooo many. We just recently went to his farm and picked some out then he called me and said for me to come by that he had a surprise for Raegan. I stopped by to find 10 watermelons and 7 pumpkins waiting for a special little girl to have her pick. She picked the one out that has Mickey on it!!!!!! She LOVES watermelon. It is so funny watching her eat it. She slurps and dribbles it all the way down to the rind. Just the other day she fell asleep in her highchair while eating some.

As if you couldn't tell this little girl brings so much joy to our family. She is truly a blessing to us. I am amazed each day at how much her personality has developed. She is such a little ham. We are always smiling and laughing with her. She has been an easy baby. We are thankful for that.

HOMECOMING!!!!!!

Today is our Homecoming Game and we are so excited. We play Independence High School from Franklin, TN. This week has been fun-filled with dress-up days and float building. Every class builds a float for the Homecoming Parade. The winner gets a cash prize for their class account. They raise money during the time they are in school to go towards their Senior Prom. I hope the sophomores win because they have worked so hard. It will definitely be between the Seniors and the Sophomores......we'll see tonight. We also have "chain wars" where the class who sales the most paper chain links wins the total of all 3 classes to go towards the charity of their choice. Then at half-time the students stretch the chains across the football fields to show how many they have sold. This activity mixes a little friendly competition with the spirit of charitable giving.

Raegan was dancing like crazy at the pep rally. Grandaddy dropped her off at school and I took her with me to the town square where we held a pep rally on the courthouse lawn. The parade goes through town and then finally reaches the square for a pep rally for the entire town. I know all of this seems silly to some but things like this are why I love small town life. There's nothing like it. Everyone celebrates together

Family Reunion on Green Mountain

Today was our Family Reunion on Green Mountain and we really enjoyed ourselves. We were so glad that my Grandparents felt like going that we all loaded up in two cars and made an entire day of it. Scott didn't get in any pictures because he was taking most of them. Thank you.

My dad, grandparents, Raegan, and myself.

Raegan loves to stand on the stump and look out the window of the covered bridge.

Me, Raegan, and Grammy. Can you believe this woman is over 70? Doesn't she look great for her age. I hope I age half as well as she has.

Raegan peeking around the window.

Momma and Raegan...... Daddy's Girls.

Back at Grandaddy Steve's house. His friend Lynn let Raegan take a picture on his Harley. He and my dad have been friends since they were in school together. He saw us outside and stopped by to visit. His daughter and I are the same age and I had his son last year in school.

Great-Grandaddy and Curly Clemons as he calls her. This is a rare photo op as she doesn't sit in his lap very often.

Grandaddy Steve, Great-Grandaddy, and Raegan. Every Grandaddy must have super-trooper Ray-bans. Atleast both of Raegan's Grandaddy's do.

His Little Girls. We are the daughters he never had.
Father and Son.
